Orissa

I'm never really into politics... or anything of that sort, really. That's why I envy the knowledge of some of my friends... Ritesh and Uzma to say the least, I don't know how much of a newspaper they do read and how often, or even Presley for that matter, but they 'know' everything.
But when I walked into Church last week, three people came running upto me and asked me to sign a petition... I was confused as all I heard was 'Orissa'. I thought it was something that involved me being actively and financially involved, so I let it go...
After mass, the same thing happened... and then I heard '...Christians being persecuted' and I stopped and signed the petition.

Turns out that in Orissa ( even before and in 1999 where a missionary and his two sons were burnt alive in a jeep to cheering mob) Christians are being taunted, beaten up and even killed. It's continued to Mangalore (where I'm from), Goa and Bangalore.
The cause? Christianity is divided into various different sections such as Orthodox, Born Agains and Roman Catholics to say the few common ones. A new kind of break away from the Church are the 'New Life' Christians, who are believed to be converting Hindu's in Orissa using means of Foreign Aid, whatever that is.
Obviously, this isn't good for the 'Bajrangs' who are the Hindu cult known to be revolting against this conversion and beating up any kind of Christians they see. The result? Roman Catholics and Churches are burnt, Holy pictures and Statues being burnt, Nuns and Priests forced into intercourse with each other and gang raped by the cruel mobs.... And so on and so forth.

I couldn't sleep that night, or the night after...or yesterday...and maybe not even tomorrow. I'm sorry for being dramatic, but the thing is, no one can sit them down and talk to them... No one can actually sit down and have a decent conversation anymore...
This is why I think we should pray...
